About.
Cups left behind on the table after breakfast. A forgotten pear in the fruit bowl waiting to be eaten. The satisfied table and chair after a busy dinner party. People often don’t pay attention to these small everyday things around us, but they have a story to tell. In a world in which it's not self-evident for everyone to be part of these simple ‘normal’ scenes, and where people are often caught up in their own individual lives and careers, Lieve (Groningen, 2002) feels a great appreciation for these simple everyday objects around us. Her work portrays these everyday things that deserve more attention, everyday objects and scenes that are hidden in plain sight.
Lieve reshapes these objects over and over, meticulously, and in different ways, until they lose their function and become shapes of their own, enhancing their form, color and texture. After this she places these objects into scenes, emphasizing their mutual relationship and connection and thereby showing everyday moments of coming together. Lieve portrays these objects and scenes using different materials and techniques, such as paintings, pencil drawings, stained glass and ceramics. The traditional processing of these materials plays a big part in the reshaping of an object or scene as every material has its own characteristics.
Lieve wants to show the viewer the beauty in the simplicity of objects and the way they interact. She wants them to see them from a different perspective and to start paying attention. Not only to these objects surrounding us but also to each other.
